eWallet - Secure Information In Your Pocket ( PDA Software )

This software designed to keep your sensitive information in a secure place on your PDA. makes it easy to store your sensitive information in a graphical environment that uses strong encryption (RC4 encryption algorithm, with a 128-bit key) and password protection. There's really not much to learning how to use the program as it is fairly straight forward. The idea is, you have a wallet (you can have more than one), and in that wallet you store information about your credit cards, passport, serial numbers, etc.

Smartphone Market Exploding, Microsoft Winning, Most People Don't Know How to Use Them

via bargainpda.com

By brian

A new study from In-Stat shows the Smartphone market is set to grow 70% in 2005. Microsoft and Linux-based operating systems are expected dominate the market, taking share from RIM and not surprisingly, PalmSource.

"The market's growth will involve major shifts in share among the OS platforms," says Bill Hughes, In-Stat analyst. "The winners will be Microsoft and Linux. Their growth will be at the expense of Research In Motion (RIM) and PalmSource, although these organizations will continue to see their numbers grow."

Other core findings from the study include:

* The median number of applications that Smartphone users have downloaded is only one, and the ownership of PDAs, the devices that Smartphones are meant to displace, is twice that for Smartphone users as non-users.
* Consumers, as well as the industry, still lack a clear definition of "Smartphone."
* Many wireless organizations are wary of Microsoft's intentions with Windows Mobile. Microsoft is working to overcome the reluctance by the wireless industry by integrating the delivery of content to Windows Mobile-based Smartphones with its server software.

Taken in order, the application issue doesn't surprise me. I think most buyers of Smartphones get them for data access and don't need applications, other than what's included, for email and web access. I recently migrated to a Palm 700w and aside form the Microsoft Virtual Earth Mobile beta, I haven't installed anything. The other explanation may be that users are having to work too hard to find and download applications. So either the products are getting better, it's too hard to find and install applications, or more likely, a combination of both.

Their second point is dead on. Every time a stat about PDA and Smartphone distribution comes out, there's generally some sort of nonsense, like counting RIM devices as Smartphones but not Treos, which essentially do the same thing. That's the problem with allowing a technical term to be defined by marketing departments.

Lastly, I'm not sure which wireless organizations they're referring to, but Microsoft has done a good job of integrating Windows Mobile with Exchange and there's no fear of the service being turned off, a la RIM. There may be some trepidation regarding Microsoft, but not enough to hasten their growth in this market.

The bottom line is Smartphones are here to stay, replacing PDAs, traditional phones and even laptops in some cases. The growth won't cool any time soon either as manufacturers continue to improve the hardware and software platforms they're based on.

Siemens' mobile phone & PDA Hybrid

Siemens will be the first to hit Australian stores with a combination mobile phone and PDA in late March.
Based on Microsoft's Pocket PC operating system, the SX45 is a mobile phone which offers mobile access to the web, WAP, e-mail, and SMS at the same time as running the full set of windows programs.

"The real application here is wireless internet," according to Siemens Product Manager Tarquin Swift, "I think most people will still choose to have a separate phone for their telephone calls, because the whole design has an underlying data emphasis and the phone functionality won't operate without earpiece," said Swift.

Though many people have been waiting for the first PDA with mobile connectivity to come to market, Swift does not expect consumer demand to be the driving factor behind SX45 sales. "We expect sales will be driven by the business to business corporate sector, where there are many needs and specialised applications. Things like allowing executives to be on-line when they are out of the office and to enable the road warriors of the workforce to be more productive - to be able to log into corporate intranets, check stock levels and that type of thing."

The GPRS capability means the SX45 is always on to receive e-mail and it can also provide remote access to corporate LANs or Intranets via the HTTP Browser. The SX45 has a range of entertainment features including an MP3 player, video player (MPEG 4) and a range of games which can be played quietly using the SX45's stereo headset.

The Siemens SX45 will be available from late March with a retail price of $2,199

Sharing memories on your PDA

Pda news :
y Aaron J.H. Walker

As the Christmas and holiday season begins to wind down, you have probably captured great moments as images to share with friends and family. Your Palm / Pocket PC PDA is a great place to store and share these memories for all the world to see.

Getting digital images onto your PDA is probably one of the easiest features to use. But I will urge you to use your storage cards for holding all of the files you are about to create.

Both Palm and Microsoft include a basic jpeg photo viewer application on your handheld without having to purchase third party software. Of course, if you want more than the basics, there are several applications that will let you crop, fix and otherwise manipulate your images to your heart's content

Some of those third party applications for Palm (www.palmgear.com) are: Splash Photo, Resco Photo Viewer for Palm (there is also a version for the Pocket PC) and PiPhoto Suite. Some of the applications for the Pocket PC (www.pocketgear.com) are: Photo Explorer, Spb Imageer and Pocket Image Navigator. Some of the above applications are relatively inexpensive but the price does go pretty high for some of them, especially if you want advanced photo editing capabilities on your PDA.

But we're going to stick with the basics.

Once you have your images loaded into your desktop computer, the latest Palm desktop and the Microsoft Picture Viewer will let you edit your images then downsize them for syncing to your PDA. Don't worry, your original is still safe on your hard drive for a later time.

The beauty of using the desktop conversions is that they can optimize the file sizes so they take up less memory but still display beautifully on your PDA. Both the Palm / Pocket PC photo viewers will let you rotate and create slide shows to show off to co-workers, friends and family.

Remember to keep them in a jpeg format since they take up much less storage space than other formats. You won't be able to tell much difference from a small jpeg file and a gazillion megapixel file from the latest digital cameras on the screen of your PDA, so don't sweat the files sizes. While it is true you can make them too small, both desktop programs pick a good midpoint between file size, load time and how well the image looks.

Last week I mentioned the TCPMP application for viewing video on your PDA. The free program works with both Palm and Pocket PCs. With it you can share your video memories as well.

Here's how it works.

After you've edited your video on your desktop computer, you will need to download and install the free program called Pocket Divx Encoder. Divx will take your original edited video file and shrink it down to a size that will easily fit onto your storage card. One of our 22 minute video home movies is only 14 MB after the conversion.

The program is very easy to use with simple point and click conversions for either Palm or Pocket PC. After the conversion, it will automatically send it to your storage card and leave a back-up copy on your hard drive.

Then, open and view the file using TCPMP which supports portrait and landscape mode if your PDA is so equipped. You can also create playlists of your favorite videos to play one after the other.

In general TCPMP is a very useful application. Children love watching themselves or other movies on your PDA. You can convert their favorite movies or cartoon shows with Divx, place them on a storage card, generate a playlist and let the children watch them on long drives or in other places.

One last important note that will keep your friends, family and co-workers happy; do take the time to edit down your family video epics if you want to share them with others. They will really appreciate not having to sit through two hours of the family opening Christmas gifts or the like.

Cut mercilessly and get it down to ten or fifteen minutes of highlights. A ten minute video on your PDA is a lot easier to share during your lunch hour and will keep everyone coming back for more.
